I can hardly remember the rain & muddy conditions that blighted our April Tuesday comps, what a difference now, the May weather has been glorious & the course is looking good.
In Aprilthe Club held a New Members evening, we welcomed Jo Gould & Lynda Craig to the Ladies Section over drinks & cakes. They had the opportunity to meet the Management, Captains & Vice Captains in a very relaxed & convivial atmosphere.
May 3rd- The annual Mixed Away Day at Mottram Hall, where the Captains v Vice Captains Trophy was won once again by the Vice Captains. The venue & weather were superb & I hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.
Supper Golfcontinues to be ever popular, it's such good fun & is attended by a jolly bunch of players each fortnight. Lesley Hewison manages to organise the most unusual comps. for us, I can highly recommend entering --- guests are most welcome to join the competitors for Supper .
All the May Tuesday matcheshave been played in fantastic sunshine & how good to go home with clean equipment & dry clothes.
Wendy Ashton won the Bunty Booth competition on May 15th -- well done Wendy!
She will go through to the final at Haydock Park GC -- June 7th 2019, with myself as reserve .
The Exchange Daywith Henlle GC was a huge success, again, the weather was very kind & 26 of us travelled by coach, the remaining 7 ladies went in cars. Special thanks to Mary Cockayne for meeting & greeting the Henlle ladies.
Gill Lewis managed the draw, cards, registration and also closed the comp., which wasn't easy, surrounded by exhausted ladies wondering where all their lost balls could be! Massive thanks to Gill.
The terrain was a challenge -- very different to HL, but surely that's the aim of exchanging courses.
The use of a buggy certainly helped to conserve some energy & the hour spent on the balcony in the late sun, testing out the Prosecco (on draught!)was without a doubt, no hardship.
Quiz Queen Janedevised 2 quizzes, 1 for on the journey & the other at dinner. In addition, she delivered 2 to our Club early on the morning for the visitors !! How does she manage all this? Many thanks to Jane.
Sue Watson, Patricia Wood, Karen Leach and Jennie Birchall won the comp --- well done ladies on a difficult course.
The new Birdie Tree systemis working well, thanks to Nigel Curran for masterminding the transition. The results are easy & convenient to view, on MSB at the bottom of the Home Page under 'Good Scoring Reports' or, on the HLPGC Website in the Member's Section, just below Ladies News & called 'Ladies Birdie Tree'.
The Birdie Tree in the Locker Room can still be used to proudly display ones' achievements, but score cards that are recorded through MSB only, will count towards the final twice yearly Birdie totals.
The slow play issuehas improved, but I think it's a perennial problem that will never completely go away. We can all help by encouraging our playing partners to keep up with the group in front.
The much awaited Honours Boardsare now displayed in the Locker Room, and how marvellous they look. This is all due to LVC Lynn Allatt & Vicky Gent, many thanks to both of them. Also thanks to Gavin for his DIY skills.
We have had 2 new membersrecently, Caroline Fenely & Sheena Hendrie. I have spoken several times to Caroline at the Club along with her husband Steve. I have emailed Sheena & hope to meet her soon. Sheila's Buddy scheme is invaluable in helping new ladies to settle in, thank you Sheila. Joan Birchall has recovered from her accident & has rejoined, I look forward to seeing her again.

I would like to send my best wish to those of you who are not enjoying good health at the moment. It is always disturbing to hear of a golfer who is slightly ‘under par’. I wish you all a speedy recovery.
Yours in Friendship,
