Well I think we have to admit September was certainly wet, wet, wet and then sometimes rather wild and windy! There were however days when patches of blue sky were to be seen and rather fortunately something of this was experienced during the Ladies Away Trip to Carden Park!
Carden Park 10/11 September
The trip to Carden Park was absolutely fabulous! A charming group of ladies all looking to enjoy and advance their game of golf, playing 2 wonderful golf courses in the heart of Cheshire and dining out in style! A real pleasure ladies, thank you so much to all involved for making it such a happy and memorable event.
Daily Mail Foursomes - 12 September
The ladies played the Daily Mail Foursomes and Wendy Ashton and Sohanah Butler won the competition and will go on next year to represent High Legh Park in the knock out stages. Congratulations to both! We will keep you posted.
Teams' Dinner - 19 September
Representatives of all the teams met for an end of season get together. Robyn Cotton captured a moment in time as we grouped together for a photo in the early evening sunshine. Following a delicious buffet supper Vicky Gent, Sara Caldwell and Kath Davies summarised the teams' performances over the season. We then all particularly thanked Kath for organising the Friendly Matches for the last 3 years which she tells us she has really enjoyed doing. Mo Heaton will take on this role next year and we are confident she too will do a great job and really enjoy it!
Linda Pope Major - 26 September
The last Major competition of the season was won by Alison Shipston. Many congratulations! We shall be having the Ladies Prize Presentation at our end of season get together on the Pink Day - 24 October.
Saturday - End of Season Competition and Prize Presentation - 30 September
There was a shotgun Texas scramble comp, then the Prize Presentation for the magnificent trophies for the end of season followed by a great lunch for approximately 125 hungry golfers! Many congratulations to all! Results can be found on the Home page of Masterscoreboard scrolling down to the Best of Series or Knock Outs. Also Martin Eccles was presented with a cheque for the fantastic sum of £920 collected from the bank holiday weekend event and he thanked everyone on behalf of the Greenkeepers who were all present.
Captains v Vice Captains - Mixed away day - 5 October
A mixed event to be held at Aldersey Green. The Captains' team is to play the Vice Captains' team for the all important Trophy for 2017. All very friendly! Having checked the weather app for Chester this week, I was stunned to see full orange sunshine icons and temperatures between 23-27 degrees C, and then realised it was for Chester USA!

The Birdie Tree
Due to popular request the 'Birdie Tree' was reinstated this year and Liz Smith has now confirmed it is in 'working order' with all the holes now labelled. This will continue to be relevant until the end of March 2018 so please continue to record all your birdies!
It seems no matter how long one has played golf there continue to be uncertainties on some rules and often these are hard to check. So, I am including a link to a very user friendly website set up by the R&A with a Quick Reference guide and hope this helps from time to time!
Friday roll ups continue throughout the year from 10.36. All ladies are very welcome.
Christine McEwan is working hard with the Junior Section which is gaining popularity week by week. It really is worth checking the website in the members section (password wa160wa) and of course to be recommended to junior members of families and friends.
High Legh Park Sweaters
A range of Glenmuir sweaters are available to order from American Golf. The colour which closely matches the current team sweaters is 'Paradise'. Also crested Glenmuir polo shirts can be ordered from American Golf. There is a £5 charge for the High Legh Park crest.
Sunday Lunch 8 October
Bookings are being taken over the bar. A wonderful opportunity for a relaxing and social day off!
Plenty of activity for October, let's continue to hope for better weather and maybe even an Indian Summer!
Best wishes and kind regards
