Ladies August Newsletter

August 6, 2017

Dear Ladies

Hoping the holiday season finds everyone well and enjoying themselves whether at home or abroad!

Following the Lady Captain's Claret Jug competition on 4 July, won by Christine McEwan, the next major competition was the Chris Mallion Trophy on 18 July.

This has always been a particularly well supported Major Trophy event.  We were very pleased to welcome to the club Chris Mallion's daughter Jess and son Gareth who presented the magnificent trophy to this year's winner Liz Halliwell with 38 points.  Congratulations Liz!

Saturday 22 July thankfully turned out to be a fine day when there was some serious golf played by contenders in the 1st round of the Club Championship.  This competition is all about gross scores but quite frankly if you were to look at the results you might be forgiven for initially thinking you were looking at net scores!  Magnificent golf, almost like the Open!

The 2nd and final round took place on Saturday, 29 July and thankfully, following a day and evening  of torrential rain, the skies cleared and the contest continued.
The winner of this most prestigious competition for the Ladies 2017 Club Championship was Joan Hughes and the runner up Debbie Brazier.
The winner of the Men's 2017 Club Championship was Chris Chilton.
Many congratulations!

Well done to our team players.

The schedule for August continues to be hectic as follows:

Thursday, 3 August, Captains' Charity Day.  A huge amount of organisation has gone into this event and the main objective is to raise funds for the Captains' chosen charity, MedEquip4kids, in a fun way!  Sincere thanks from the Captains to everyone involved, all who are taking part, helping on the day and those who have kindly left items for auction and raffle prizes or given donations.

We shall look forward to reporting on monies raised at some point in the future but we can confirm that already £767 was raised at the Captains' Drive In in April and £210 has been collected from the charity tins at the club and range, the majority from the cake stall on Captains' Charity Day!  So, very pleased to report the total at this stage is £977 which has already been passed on to MedEquip4kids.

Tuesday 8 August, Ladies' Invitation Day.  The sign up sheet is on the noticeboard with menu details, please note special dietary requirements.  We are still looking for a few extra raffle prizes and would be grateful if you could leave any goodies with Sue Tagg.  Many thanks.

There is just 1 tee time for members and guests remaining.  Please pass your payments to Kath Davies, Lady Vice Captain.  Registration is from 9.00am and the shotgun competition starts at 10.00am.  Many ladies and their guests sign up year after year and thoroughly enjoy this wonderful summer event.

Tuesday 22 August, Ladies Exchange to The Manchester Golf Club at Hopwood, Middleton.  This is a moorland, heathland and parkland course all rolled into one and is incredibly scenic.  Our ladies have enjoyed many excursions over the years and as ever we will play in teams so some of the experienced players will be able to guide less experienced ones.  The club is about a 45 minute drive from High Legh.  The price is £22 to be booked on the BRS.  Names can be entered between 11.00 and 1.00pm to be redrawn after the comp entry is closed on Weds 16 August and then displayed on Masterscoreboard. The menu will be on the noticeboard, so please advise any dietary requirements.  Buggies can be booked.

Saturday 26 August, Greenkeepers' Benefit Competition which is a really fun day, open to 5 and 7 day members and will be available for sign up on BRS on Sunday 13 August.  There will be evening entertainment for all members and guests from the Trio Band Soulfire and Comedian Barry York @ £10 per ticket plus an optional £10 for a buffet meal.  Full details from Comps in due course.

Tuesday 29 August is the Ladies and Seniors shotgun competition plus lunch.  This will be available for sign up on the BRS and details will be sent out by email.

10/11 September Carden Park. For all the ladies who are really looking forward to our fabulous away trip to Carden Park, please look out for an email from Marianne McKenzie who has kindly offered to assist with the arrangements.

Ladies Friday Roll Up.  Please note that on Friday 4 August the roll up times are later - from 11.30-12.06.  Otherwise, for the remaining Fridays in August the usual times of 10.36-11.12 apply.  Please arrive about 15 minutes earlier to make up groups.

Looking forward to seeing you at the various events throughout the summer.

Best wishes and kind regards
Pamela Fahey
Lady Captain
