Ladies July Newsletter

July 7, 2017

Dear All,

June was certainly a very busy golfing month with variable weather!

The Munro Cup took place on 6 June and despite the wet and windy weather Tracey Taylor came in with a net score of 70 to most deservedly claim the 1st place and the Cup, which the Captains were delighted to present on Captains Day.  Many congratulations!

On the same day High Legh Park facilitated the Women's Golf Day and thanks go to all the High Legh Ladies who assisted.  I am reliably informed by Gavin that the feedback on the event was very positive.

On Tuesday 13 June, our High Legh ladies enjoyed a terrific day out to Vale Royal Abbey.  Following a team game on the beautiful course, there was a Jane Walden special quiz, a delicious meal and prizes!  We were pleased to hear that the Vale Royal ladies thoroughly enjoyed their day out at High Legh.  So a win win situation!

Also, great to report that on 13 June Debbie Hirons with her friend Collette Kane from Ecclestone Park won the American Golf Ladies Pairs Championship held at Didsbury Golf Club and they will join qualifiers from the UK and Ireland to compete in the final at the Belfry on 7 & 8 September to be covered by Sky Sports.   We wish Debbie and Collette the best of luck.

Saturday 17 June was Captains' day and Neil Burke, Harry Shaw and I greeted all our members playing in the comp from 7.00am to 3.30pm!  Fortunately it was a lovely day and everyone was in good spirits especially when we reminded them about the cakes to look forward to at the halfway house!  So thanks very much to everyone for helping out and to Sheila Sims for organising, it really does make a difference and is much appreciated.

The Men's Trophy went to Graham Ball with 44 points and the Ladies' Trophy to Lynn Allatt with 42 points.  Fantastic results!  Many congratulations!

The evening supper buffet was much enjoyed and particular thanks go to Christine Murphy who once again helped to transform the dining room with the most beautiful floral arrangements and Sue Tagg for organising the table planning.  Thanks also to Anna and her team, not forgetting le chef for coming up with a splendid buffet menu. Plus a little magic from Scoop Magic!

On Tuesday 27 Joan Hughes and Robyn Cotton had a sensational game and came in with 45 points to win the 4BBB Ping competition.  We shall await news from Ping about the finals in September.  Well done ladies!

On Tuesday 4 July the earlier tees were reserved for ladies playing 24 holes in the Lady Captain's Claret Jug competition closely pursued by the remainder of the field who had decided 18 holes was quite enough!

From 3.00pm ladies already in the clubhouse were treated to a Kirsty speciality cake whilst waiting for the final results and prize presentation.  Thank you Kirsty an absolute triumph!

The winner of the Ladies Claret Jug with a tremendous 43 points plus another 11 was Christine McEwan - loud cheers and much applause from everyone!  Hurray for Christine.  Well done!

June team match results are as follows:
12 June A team beat Stockport at home 6/1
Plate halved at Knutsford
19 June B team lost at Mellor & Townscliffe  5 1/2/1 1/2
26 June A team lost at Astbury 5/2
25 June Business Ladies lost at Wilmslow 21/2 1/2
Congratulations to all our teams!

Diary dates for July and August:
Friday Roll Ups are booked from 10.36-11.12 each Friday in July.  All ladies are very welcome.  Ideally roll up at about 10.15am to make up groups of 3 or 4 balls.

Tuesday 16 July the Chris Mallion trophy:
This is a particularly popular competition and Chris's daughter Jess, and possibly son Gareth, will be coming to the club for the presentation of the trophy.  This will take place in the late afternoon at 4.00pm and it would be much appreciated if as many ladies as possible could stay/return for the presentation.

Thursday, 3 August, Captains' Charity Day.  The Captains and Charity Committee will be trying very hard to raise as much money as possible for MedEquip4kids before and during this event. All your support is very much appreciated, whether entering teams, donating raffle or auction prizes or helping with registration or wrapping!

Tuesday 8 August, Ladies Invitation Day. The sign up sheet is on the Noticeboard; please note guest's names, special dietary requirements and make payments as requested.

A vey busy time for sure!  Wishing everyone great summer golf perhaps with a little bit of Wimbledon thrown in as a seasonal distraction!

Best wishes
Kind regards
Pamela Fahey
