Cheshire Union Junior Newsletter

June 2, 2017

Welcome to your first junior newsletter for 2017

Hi everyone, I can’t believe that we are already into our season and our most important event, “The 4-Counties” has already been played at Shifnal Golf Club in Shropshire, over 3-days.  Sadly we lost out to Lancashire by the narrowest of margins.  Unfortunately the boys annual Pre Season at Warrington, on Sunday 5th March had to be cancelled on the day due to awful weather conditions.

The next event on the junior calendar will be a mixed age match at Mile End GC against Shropshire & Herefordshire juniors, on Sunday 30th April.  Our squad this year is really strong and you will be able to follow the result of this match, along with all of the others this season on our website.

Listed below are three ever popular events, which are played annually.  Juniors from any Cheshire club can enter.  Please put them in your diary and on your club junior notice board as soon as possible, in order that you can include them in their ‘must play’ list for this year.

Thursday, 1st June 2017

Cheshire Junior Champions Club, to be held at Chester Golf Club, over 18 holes.  This is a club team event consisting of 3 players.  The team can be all boys, all girls, or a mix of boys and girls.  The event is ever popular as it’s the only County competition to include boys and girls.  All players must be under 18yrs of age on the 1st January 2017

The entry form is on our website.

Friday 28thJuly 2017

The Cheshire Boys Championship is held annually at Delamere Forest Golf Club.  The format is medal stroke play over 36 holes.  This event, which is limited to 60 players, is open to junior boys, under 18 yrs on 1st January 2017.  You must have a current “Competitive” CONGU UHS playing handicap not exceeding 12 at the time of entry. This event is the most popular on the junior calendar and offers boys the opportunity and challenge of playing alongside and against the cream of junior golfers in Cheshire.  The entry form for this event is on our website.

Wednesday, 16th August 2017

Cheshire Junior Championship, medal stroke play, over 18 holes at Helsby Golf Club.  This event is open to all junior boys, under 16 yrs on 1st January 2017, with a handicap of 28 or less.  There’s also an under 14 yrs of age category for this event.  Again this is a very popular competition.

The entry form is on our website.

Junior lower age squads

This year’s -14s squad have already played 2 matches, at Prestbury and Delamere Forest, winning both of them.  Our -16s squad are yet to flex their muscles, so watch this space.  Remember, these squads were selected from our assessment evening’s last November, so it’s important that you attend this year’s event, which will be staged around Oct/Nov.  Liaise with your junior organiser around August time, to make sure your name will be put forward for consideration.

In the meantime enjoy your new season and why not set yourself a (realistic) handicap target to aim for.  Please feel free to contact me via this email link if you require any help or guidance.
