Ladies April Newsletter

April 11, 2017

Dear Ladies,

Firstly, thanks and congratulations to Patricia for her Captaincy of a very successful year  during which the ladies section has gone from strength to strength.  Also congratulations with regard to the exceptional charity fundraising throughout 2016.

I would like to thank Patricia for electing me as Lady Vice Captain, a role that I have enjoyed for the last year and I am now very honoured to take on the role of Lady Captain.  Many thanks to the ladies for all your support, good wishes, beautiful cards, messages, hugs and handshakes.

I am very excited about 2017 going forwards and wish everyone a really enjoyable and successful golfing year!

News to date
Sunday 19 March
The first round of the Archie Preston tournament, which is a mixed foursomes inter club tournament, was played at home and High Legh won 6-1 against Rochdale.  Andy Riley congratulated the team on a fantastic result against a team who made the semi-finals of this prestigious competition last year.  We await the draw for the next round.

Tuesday 21 March
The last Eclectic competition was cancelled due to bad weather.  In total we managed 5 out of 8 this year.

Tuesday 28 March
LC v LVC Matchplay.  The traditional end of season match was held for which 50 ladies had signed up and a number of additional ladies attended for the lunch.  It was agreed that it was good opportunity to introduce Matchplay just ahead of the team matches and the format was well received.
The LC team won on the day and were awarded a small prize each.
Also awarded was the Eclectic Gross trophy to Alison Shipston, in absentia, apologies received, and Eclectic Nett to Pamela Fahey!

The Lady Captain gave an end of year speech and thanks to all and introduced the Lady Captain for 2017.
A gift and card was presented to the Lady Captain on behalf of the ladies by the Lady Vice Captain.

The new Lady Captain, Pamela Fahey, then introduced the committee, Vicky Gent, Liz Smith, Marianne McKenzie, Gill Lewis, Sheila Sims and Lynn Allatt and the Lady Vice Captain, Kath Davies.

Sunday 2 April : Captains' Drive In
The format for the handover of Captains seemed to work well.  The speeches were kept fairly brief and Alister Cook and Patricia Wood announced the total charity fund for Marie Curie and introduced the new Captain Neil Burke and the Vice Captain Trevor Pathak and the new Lady Captain Pamela Fahey who introduced Lady Vice Captain Kath Davies.  Alex Cookson then introduced the new Junior Captain Harry Shaw.

120 players enjoyed glorious sunshine for a shotgun Delaney scramble competition followed by lunch and a presentation for the Winter League and Ladies' Eclectic.

The Captains 2017 Charity Medequip4kids http://www.medequip4kids.org.uk was announced and an envelope raffle took place.

Following lunch prizes for the day were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams, NTP & LDs.  The winning team was John Watson, Adrian Ellis, Pat Taylor-Carr and Richard Taylor-Carr.

Monday 3 April : Ladies' Team Matches.  There were 2 fixtures at home as follows:
B team v Northenden : High Legh won 6-1

Plate team v Knutsford : High Legh won 6 1/2-1/2

Sunday 9 April : Business Ladies' Team won at home against Wilmslow.

Monday 10 April : B team v Mellor & Townscliffe : High Legh won 5 1/2-1 1/2

What a fantastic start to the season! Many congratulations to our High Legh Ladies.

Tuesday 6 June

Women's Golf Day at High Legh.  In addition to various golfing activities during the late afternoon there will be a golf fashion show in the evening and Gavin would like ladies to volunteer to be involved with helping out and/or modelling.  Please contact Sue Tagg or Daryl on reception@highpark.com.

That I think was an unusually packed newsletter and the only thing I can just add is to remind the ladies that not only is the relatively newly extended and refurbished locker room a place of calm and tranquility to revive oneself after a gruelling game, where complimentary hand creams, perfume and hairspray can be found, we also have a considerable selection of books available in our library for a small charitable donation!

Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the course and in the clubhouse.

Best wishes.

Kind regards

Pamela Fahey

Lady Captain
