Academy Course Update

December 28, 2015

This Winter we are making some alterations to our Academy 9 hole course to improve holes and make the course enjoyable for every level of golfer. When the course opens in April we plan to have three different types of tee's, a front, middle and back on all holes. Unlike the main course anyone can play on any of these tees meaning that rather than having a tee set to a specific gender or age, the golfer can choose what challenge they want on the day. Ladies and Children may play from the back and Men may play from the front. We also plan to have a second scorecard for beginners and children which adds a shot to every hole making the course a par 42 instead of the existing par 33. This addition gives every golfer the chance to par a hole and improve their confidence on the course.

New Features

We have several new features to be added to the course ready for the April opening. The first is the new green on the 8th that will be 80% surrounded by water. This challenging alteration will turn the existing 8th into a 444 yard par 5 and make it a signature hole on the course. Players will have two options, play the hole safe and lay up for an accurate chip onto the green or aim to get there in 2 shots and risk straying into the pond.

There will also be two new tees on the second hole of the course shortening the length by up to 40 yards. This much needed addition will help higher handicaped golfers and shorter hitters to get on the green in one.

We will also be significantly re-shaping the rough on the majority of holes creating wider fairways and decreasing the punishment for stray balls. The rough will be cut on holes such as the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th.

Finally depending on the weather throughout the early months of the year we plan to remove some of the pond reeds on the 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th as well as add water hazard posts to all ponds on the course.
